About Me.

I’m a graduate of Virginia Tech’s College of Art, Architecture & Design. I am passionate about good design and like to apply a hands-on approach to my work. I try to cultivate a sense of wonder and delight and build meaningful experiences in my life and work. There is a responsibility that comes with the ability to create and so I try to do so in a sustainable and ethically just manner.

Design isn’t the only thing I’m passionate about. Check out some of my other hobbies and interests:

Art

  • I have a deep and indescribable love for music. The stories and melodies create an experience like nothing else. There is almost a constant stream of music that flows through me, varying from R&B to classical and everything in between.

I am inspired by musicians and their dedication to their art; no detail is too small and it all adds to the grand composition. I like to think that I approach my work with the same level of devotion and intention.

  • I enjoy film’s ability to compose a story. Whether through photography, where I can build the narrative surrounding a moment captured in time, or through cinema as I become a bystander taken on another’s journey.

I am a fan of science fiction and fantasy and enjoy being a witness to the seemingly impossible. I take inspiration from these genres and apply a similar level of imagination in my work as I tend to begin my process in a speculative realm and narrow my way down to what is possible within my constraints.

Health

  • I think the mind is one of the most interesting products of nature. It is a vastly complex and unique thing, but those qualities only multiply when studying individuals and their varying environments. I believe there is as much that connects us as there are things that make us different and a significant part of that lies within the mind.

As a designer, I need to have a deep understanding of people. I’m interested in building experiences for people, and knowing about an individual’s thoughts, behaviors, and patterns is a huge help. I prioritize a psychographic approach to my designs as I feel it does a better job of understanding the user and their needs.

  • I love to be in nature and my relationship with it not only affects me as a human but as a creative as well. Unfortunately, as a society, much of our connection to the natural world has grown distant. As a designer, I feel a large responsibility to create in a way that is aligned with nature and does not steal from it but is reflective of it and works in collaboration with it.

Over the past few years, I have been gaining an interest in plant life and their relationship with us as humans from a physiological and psychological perspective. I think the integration of plants in our daily life can only benefit mankind, and the natural world as a whole.

Technology

  • The use of artificial intelligence is a growing trend in the world today. As with any new and emerging technology, there are a number of hopes, fears, and questions that surround it. Like any tool, there is a right and a wrong way to use it.

I sometimes use AI as a collaborative tool to help me work through ideas that I am having trouble actualizing. It’s a lot like having a second brain to me. I’m interested to see in what ways the technology grows and have a feeling it will be as widely used and integrated as spell-check.

  • Projection technology has existed for hundreds of years and is still full of potential. I am interested in the projection of light for many reasons, I find it holds a sort of alluring magic to it.

My generation (Gen Z) grew up with screens; they are integrated into our day-to-day. We have all felt the effects of screens and their prolonged use and it often feels like we must choose between connectivity and our health. I believe, however, there is another way and it begins with rethinking the screen.
